SYJOMAR, short for Syro-Jordanian Shipping Company, Lattakia, started its regular Liner Service between the Antwerp/Hamburg Range and Syriaearly 1979. The newly built sisterships “BARADA” and “AL YARMOUK” were delivered in that year. A reliable monthly service was built up with these two fast vessels, showing a trnsit time of just 10 days from the last N.C. port of call to Lattakia and, on inducement, Tartous.
As a result, the line was described to be “The fastest Service” in the “In-Depth Guide to Liner Services”, published by Lloyd’s of London Press. The line’s reputation of speed and reliability was further enhanced when Postal Authorities selected the line as their regular mail carrier. The fact that the line basically only accepts cargodestined for Syria, makes it the dominant once in this trade.
Syjomar has a close co-operation with the Syrian State forwarding organization Syriamar. The major part of Syriamar’s cargo is carried by the line.
The
line has succesfully organized Syrian inland transport of great variety
of project cargoes, including large and extremely awkward pieces. The
expertise thus gained is readily put at the disposal of cargo
interests. The Inland transport of project cargoes is accompanied by
the Line’s own cargo-superintendents, who give a daily report on the
transport progress.
Syjomar’s regular
ships are multipurpose with reefer space for approx. 1000 cbm
conventional cargo and have lifting gear of up to 40 tons capicity. The
“BARADA” and “AL YARMOUK” can both produce twenty air changes per hour
in all holds and are, therefore, in demand for carrying Southbound seed
potatoes and Northboundconsumption potatoes and citrus.
The vessels are highest classed with Lloyd’s Register of Shipping. Owners are members of the “Newcastle” P&I and FDD Club, London. Plans for expansion of thr line’s fleet are under study, details of which will be revealed shortly.
Syjomar is the best partner for the North Continent/Syria trade, for port-to-port shipments as well as for delivery to Syrian inland destinations on Through Bill of Lading.
